Day- and Nightlife: Restaurants, Bars and Cafés in Düsseldorf

This page is as colourful, lively and varied as the day and nightlife scene in Duesseldorf. We make it our mission to constantly unearth new tips for you and add them to this page. We'll also be pleased to listen to your suggestions.

Restaurants around Düsseldorf's Media Harbour

Düsseldorf's Media Harbour is within walking distance of the carathotel Düsseldorf.

In the past four years the number of culinary establishments has doubled in the Media Harbour. It is a popular hot spot on an evening, and the Harbour's after work parties enjoy cult status. Many people come here for a meal after they have finished work for the day.

At lunchtime there are plenty of pubs, bistros and restaurants offering a quick snack. In the buildings that are soon to be completed, several areas are planned for retail. There is already a hairdressing salon and gym, a travel agent and a photo processing shop, a flower shop, tanning salon and doctor's surgery. Hammer Strasse, with its restaurants and pubs, has long been a popular place for young people to hang out.

Restaurant Gehry's

In the Gehry Buildings in the new Media Harbour “Gehry´s” offers truly special steaks. Thanks to an oven developed in the USA you can get a uniquely tasty and tender steak or fillet like nothing you've ever tried in Germany before.

Bar- Restaurant Bug

Situated in Düsseldorf's Media Harbour Bug is known for its unique culinary variety. Bug targets quality-conscious people, and aims to fulfil their wishes at (almost) any time of the day and night - from delicious breakfasts to business lunches or dinner with friends and business partners.

Patrick's Seafood N° 1

Patrick has been the specialist for fresh fish and shellfish since 1974. Simply great, classy, delicious food!

CURRY, at last a delicious currywurst sausage in Düsseldorf!

CURRY – probably Germany's premier currywurst restaurant. Something special from an award-winning chef, and all to butcher's quality! Chips from fresh raw potatoes, hand cut, freshly pre-fried and finished. Nine individual sauces. Homemade coleslaw. Alt, Pils and Weizen beers, select wines and more.

Beer Gardens and Pubs in Düsseldorf

Düsseldorf locals’ favourite achievement is Altbier (old beer), with its bitter, dryly spicy flavour. Politicians, designers, craftsmen and students sit side by side in the city’s pubs. The Koebesse, somewhat grumpy waiters, are there to make sure that there is a ready supply of full altbier glasses.

Beer Gardens

Beer gardens on the Rhine Terrace: Directly on the banks of the Rhine under mature trees with a wonderful view of the river as it gently flows past. Wonderful, but often extremely busy too.

Beer garden in the Burghof Gallery: Situated in Kaiserswerth, directly alongside the river surrounded by the ruins of the ancient imperial castle.

Beer Garden in the Malkasten: A small and romantic beer garden in the old Malkastenverein (artists’ association) park.

Traditional Pubs: Zum Uerige

The archetypal pub. The Erbsensuppe (pea soup), served on Saturdays between 11am and 3 pm, is extremely popular. Cold meals are also on the menu, whilst Altbier is, of course, the main focus. www.uerige.de

Pubs

Im Füchschen: Rustic traditional pub and Düsseldorf institution. Hearty food is served with the altbier. Own butchery where you can buy sausages.

Brauerei Schumacher: famous for its Latzenbier festivals. Latzenbier is altbier with a higher alcohol content.

Brauerei zum Schiffchen: very good pub food in a former, 400-year old mariners’ pub.
