Shops and more in Duesseldorf

Shopping in Düsseldorf – high class luxury, young designers and urban treasures

The KÖ (Koenigsallee)

Every famous and prestigious name in the fashion world is represented here. Armani, Bogner, Chanel, Hermés, Louis Vuitton, Joop, Prada, Porsche Design, Strenesse and many more. Not only fashion, but lifestyle, accessories, art, cosmetics and multi-media goods can also be found on this great street for shopping and a stroll. The twin activities of seeing and being seen also apply to the numerous top quality restaurants, bars and nightclubs around Düsseldorf’s KÖ. A glass of champagne is the order of the day here.

More information about Koenigsallee can be found at www.koenigsallee-duesseldorf.de

Old Town and Carlstadt

Together, the old town and neighbouring Carlstadt are a shopper’s paradise. Apart from a few large department stores, the range here tends to be small but perfectly formed. Fashion, art, design and especially antiques – in the alleyways of these two districts there's lots to discover! Browse to your heart’s content!

Information on the range of shopping in the old town can be found at www.duesseldorf-altstadt.de

Schadowstrasse Düsseldorf

Düsseldorf’s Schadowstrasse is a cheaper alternative to the KÖ. The Schadow Arcades, numerous department stores and Düsseldorf’s Theatre are all to be found here.

Schadowstrasse is on the internet at www.schadowstrasse-dus.de

Yet more shopping!

The complete opposite to the KÖ style: Hausfreund Print Shirts – great clothes and more. The “HAUSFREUND WAREHOUSE” can be found at 106 Ackerstrasse in the district of Flingern. Hausfreund is also online at www.dein-hausfreund.de

Thanks to the high number of designers in Düsseldorf, there are also lots of second hand shops. For example:  Lieblingsstuecke (favourite things) www.lieblingsstuecke.de

Düsseldorf mustard from an earthenware pot can be bought from the spice girls at Düsseldorf’s Gewürzhaus (Old Town). Killepitsch (Dusseldorf herb liquor) can be bought from a small shop in the heart of the old town.

The flea market in Aachener Platz (Saturday from 9 am to 2 pm) is still a genuine junk market with some useful and some not so useful stuff.

For art lovers: there are over 100 galleries in Düsseldorf. The quarterly Kunst- und Galeriekalender (art and gallery calendar) provides an overview.

Fashion Exhibitions, Designers, Fashion Schools

Düsseldorf is an important centre for fashion exhibitions. The best known are the Collections Premiere www.cpd.de and the international GDS Shoe Fair www.gds-shoefair.com.

In addition, Düsseldorf has produced some very good designers of its own (Düsseldorfer Designer). Every year a whole host of new talent is discovered and fostered in the city’s fashion schools (Düsseldorfer Modeschulen).
